Here are the requirements for homeschooling of the sacramental classes (students preparing for First Communion or Confirmation). For homeschooling of other grades, only step 1 & 2 is necessary.
1) Still Register for Faith Formation and click the homeschool registration form. You will not have to pay or fill out the policy form.
2) Attend the parents meeting at the beginning of classes. Please see the Faith Formation Calendar for this date and other important dates.
3) Have your child attend and pass the corresponding Sacrament Assessment in late February.
The Sacrament Assessment is a series of questions and answers for your student to learn in order to receive the sacrament. The assessment will be administered sometime in February or March. If the students fail the test, they will have the opportunity to retake it again until they pass before the date they receive the Sacrament.
When a child is baptized, the parents commit to raising him or her in the practice of the faith, and to keep God's commandments as Christ taught us, by loving God and our neighbor. Parents are the primary educators of their children in the faith and are responsible for the salvation of their children. As your child's first catechist, some ways you can begin to share your faith with them include:
Catholics have a duty to participate at the Sacrifice of the Mass on Sundays. The most important thing you can do to encourage and bolster the faith of your family is attending Mass weekly and daily when permitted.
Join us at the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass on Sundays or Saturday evenings to celebrate Our Lord's passion, death, and resurrection as a community. Catholics in a state of grace are permitted to receive the body, blood, soul, and divinity of Jesus Christ in the Eucharist. To know if you may receive the Eucharist, please visit this link.
“The Sunday celebration of the Eucharist is at the heart of the Church’s life. We Christians go to Sunday Mass to encounter the Risen Lord, or better still to allow ourselves to be encountered by him, to hear his Word, to nourish ourselves at his table, and thus to become the Church, that is, his mystical living Body in the world.... Without Christ we are condemned to be dominated by everyday weariness, with its worries, and by fear of the future. The Sunday encounter with the Lord gives us the strength to experience the present with confidence and courage, and to go forth with hope. For this reason we Christians go to encounter the Lord on Sunday, in the Eucharistic celebration.”
