The Scout programs chartered by the local Boy Scout council help prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Scout Law. The Scout Oath emphasizes duty to God and the need to remain “morally straight,” while the Scout Law includes a pledge to be reverent. Scouting helps youth develop academic skills, self-confidence, ethics, leadership skills, outdoor skills, and citizenship skills that influence their adult lives. It builds leaders of strong character and high morals who give their religious faith a central role in their lives.
